Normal Microbiota: Peptostreptococcus is a component of the normal microbiota in various body sites. In healthy individuals, these bacteria contribute to the balance of the microbial community.
Infections: Peptostreptococcus species can cause infections, particularly in the context of mixed anaerobic infections. They are commonly associated with infections in the abdomen, skin and soft tissues, and oral and dental infections. In some cases, Peptostreptococcus species may be involved in polymicrobial infections with other anaerobic bacteria.
Dental Health: Peptostreptococcus is found in the oral cavity and may play a role in dental health. However, certain species within this genus have been associated with dental infections and periodontal diseases.
Clinical Significance: While Peptostreptococcus is generally considered a part of the normal microbiota, certain species can be clinically significant, especially in the context of infections. Infections involving Peptostreptococcus are often treated with antibiotics, but the choice of antibiotics may depend on the specific species and the clinical context.

Different labs use different software to read the sample. See this post for more details.
One lab may say you have none, another may say you have a lot! - This may be solely due to the software they are using to estimate.
We deem lab specific values using values from the KM method for each specific lab to be the most reliable.
Lab Low and High are calculated using the formula that most labs use: Mean - 2 Standard Deviation to Mean + 2 Standard Deviation
