Fusobacteriales Details: NCBI 203491, gram-negative or unknown [order]

| Fusobacteriales| Fusobacteriales Staley and Whitman 2012

  1. Oral Health:

    • Fusobacterium species are part of the normal oral microbiota and are involved in dental plaque formation. Some species have been associated with periodontal diseases.
  2. Infections:

    • Fusobacterium nucleatum, a species within the Fusobacteriales order, has been associated with various infections. It can be involved in infections of the oral cavity, respiratory tract, and intra-abdominal infections. Fusobacterium necrophorum, another species in this order, is associated with Lemierre's syndrome, a rare but serious condition that typically starts with a throat infection and can progress to involve other parts of the body, including the jugular vein and lungs.
  3. Colorectal Cancer:

    • Fusobacterium nucleatum has been the focus of research in relation to colorectal cancer. Some studies have suggested associations between higher levels of Fusobacterium nucleatum in colorectal tumor tissues and colorectal cancer, though the nature of this association is still being explored.

Lab Reporting

Different labs use different software to read the sample. See this post for more details.
One lab may say you have none, another may say you have a lot! - This may be solely due to the software they are using to estimate.
We deem lab specific values using values from the KM method for each specific lab to be the most reliable.
