| Filifactor| Filifactor Collins et al. 1994
Oral health: Filifactor species are part of the normal oral microbiota, where they contribute to the formation of dental plaque and biofilms. While they are generally considered commensal bacteria, Filifactor species have been associated with periodontal diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis. These bacteria can proliferate in the gingival sulcus and periodontal pockets, where they contribute to inflammation, tissue destruction, and bone loss characteristic of periodontal diseases.
Respiratory infections: Filifactor species have been detected in the respiratory tract and have been associated with respiratory infections such as pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). While their exact role in respiratory infections is not fully understood, Filifactor species may contribute to airway inflammation, mucus production, and exacerbations of respiratory conditions. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms by which Filifactor species interact with the respiratory mucosa and contribute to respiratory infections.
Systemic diseases: There is growing evidence linking oral bacteria, including Filifactor species, to systemic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Oral bacteria can enter the bloodstream through oral mucosal lesions, dental procedures, or periodontal pockets, leading to bacteremia and systemic dissemination. Once in the bloodstream, these bacteria may contribute to systemic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and the progression of systemic diseases. While the exact role of Filifactor species in systemic diseases requires further investigation, their presence in the oral cavity may have implications for systemic health.
Antibiotic resistance: Some species within the genus Filifactor have been reported to exhibit antibiotic resistance, which may complicate treatment of infections caused by these bacteria. Antibiotic-resistant strains of Filifactor species have been isolated from dental plaque and periodontal pockets, highlighting the importance of antimicrobial stewardship and surveillance of antibiotic resistance in oral bacteria.

Different labs use different software to read the sample. See this post for more details.
One lab may say you have none, another may say you have a lot! - This may be solely due to the software they are using to estimate.
We deem lab specific values using values from the KM method for each specific lab to be the most reliable.
Lab Low and High are calculated using the formula that most labs use: Mean - 2 Standard Deviation to Mean + 2 Standard Deviation
